The long anticipated FEMTANZ training program got off to a good start with the first session 10-12th of December. We have a great and diverse group of female pioneers who were brave enough to enter the training, in spite of scary words like “technology”.
We weren’t specifically looking for technology entrepreneurs, but rather female entrepreneurs who want to use ICT and perhaps also other technologies to take their businesses forward and to a growth path.
The group includes very seasoned and experienced entrepreneurs, a few who are just starting, and everything in between. The businesses are in agriculture, food processing, solar energy, textile manufacturing, consulting and retail, to name a few.
The whole training program is very participatory, and the participants had to share their experiences and views on all the topics. This was new and also somewhat uncomfortable and challenging to even the experienced participants, and there were some moments where also our trainers were stretching their limits.
The highlight of the last day was the “market” where the participants could bring in samples of their products and marketing materials, and receive feedback and criticism from others based on the seven Ps of marketing. Some of them also made good sales on the event, I carried home some nice items including baobab powder!
Mama Clara came to me in the end to share some feedback. She has participated in quite a lot of trainings before, and she wanted to point out how different and important the participatory approach was to her.
She said “in most of the trainings, the trainer speaks and we listen, and we miss out on all the real life experiences and problems experienced by the entrepreneurs in the room. This time we got not only the theory, but also knowledge and examples on things that have really happened to one of us. That is powerful.”
Summing up; we honestly had quite a hard time finding enough participants for this first FEMTANZ training but now that the training set is over with the dozen selected partipants, we are quite excited to see what will come out of this group!
