INNOVATION FUND SPECIAL EDITION FOR ZANZIBAR – WINNERS ANNOUNCED

In May 2016, sixth round of Innovation Fund was organized by COSTECH and TANZICT. That was a special edition purely for Zanzibar innovators. We received 106 applications and 5 start-up ideas were decided to be awarded (name of the innovation, innovator, hosting institution, and amount granted):

 

My Precious Bag by Lukman Mohamed Bachu, Zanzibar Technology and Business Incubator, 4,6M TSH.

It’s a simple bag that has a flexible solar panel which enables user to charge smartphones, tablets and laptops.

 

Locally produced three wheel scooter for disabled persons by Salum Moh’d Salum and team, REZA, 3,5M TSH.

Zanzibar lacks special motorcycles for disabled people as spare parts are not well available. The solution is to provide a locally manufactured vehicle.

 

Milk Processing by Yusta Method Katembo and team, Zanzibar Technology Business Incubation Bweni Zanzibar, 4,5M TSH.

Women entrepreneurs producing dairy products with Zanzibar flavors.

 

WajasiriApp, Entrepreneurs Mobile Platform by Abdul-Rahman Mohammed Hafidh, SUZA, 2,99M TSH.

Mobile application connects service providers and clients.

 

Cooler Fan by Ali Hassan Ali Kali, Zanzibar Technology and Business Incubator, 3,55M TSH.

Energy saving portable fan that produces cool air.

 

Altogether, during 2012-2016 six Innovation Fund rounds were organized including 518 applicants and 45 innovative ideas were awarded. Innovation Fund Committee wishes good luck for all the winners and encourages all to continue developing their ideas further!
